Anne Sommerfeld

Interim Director, Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology

I started my career in Nursing in Ontario after graduating from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. My family moved to Prince George in 2007 from Kitchener, Ontario.  I have taught labs and classes for the School of Health Sciences while completing my Masters of Science of Community Health. A love of teaching led to the completion of the Leading for Learning Graduate certificate in the Masters of Multidisciplinary Leadership degree. I am a life-long learner and now I am in an Educational Doctorate - Educational Leadership with Western University. I also practice as an RN at the local Hospice.

I engage future students to UNBC in two programs. I am the Director of Northern Pathways to Medicine Bursary and Program, and I visit high schools to promote and interact with potential students. This is an exciting position and I am glad to support and mentor these excellent students. I also assist in Adventures in Health Care, a 4-day health career exposure program from students in Grade 10-11 from all over BC.

I am excited to share my passion and experience with the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology. My desire for student-centred teaching and success along with promoting teaching excellence drive my interactions.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I hold a number of IT certifications and am an active contributor to various open-source software projects.
