This course provides students with an understanding of the advanced manufacturing techniques used in the mass timber industry.
Starting with the historical background of the tools and processes used, it provides you with the foundation for understanding current tools, their components, and workflow.
Students will then explore the Modern Methods of Advanced Manufacturing and dive into the structure and programming of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines.
The goal of this course is to provide a level of understanding that helps achieve greater efficiency, increased productivity, and informed tool purchases. The Advanced Manufacturing Techniques I provides a jumping-off point for further mass timber education and course offerings.
Topics to be covered in Advanced Manufacturing Techniques I are as follows:
- History of manufacturing
- Production processes
- Workflow (CAD - CAM) overview
- CNC Machines – overview: configurations and considerations when purchasing
- CNC Machines – components
- Programming overview
The course is structured as a progression of introductory topics, with interactive elements and small quizzes between sections. The course finishes with a final exam.
