EM Course (02) - Introduction to Environmental Management

The Introduction to Environmental Management provides students with key knowledge pertaining to environmental documentation and project structure. Students learn about the characteristics of an Environmental Management Plan (EMP), Construction Environmental Management Program (CEMP), and EMP Component Plan, and how these systems differ.

As well as how to respond to 'Chance Finds' on site. The course also examines key knowledge pertaining to environmental documentation and project structures, all with the intent of building students' understanding of environmental monitors' role and responsibilities on a daily basis.

  • Distinguish between environmental protection, prevention and mitigation
  • Recognize the EMP (Environmental Management Plan)
  • Understand the role of the CEMP (Construction Environmental Management Program)
  • Describe examples of EMP Component Plans
  • Know the role of the EPP (Environmental Protection Plan)
  • Understand project structure, roles, responsibilities, and duties
  • Define the relationship between the environmental monitor and Cultural Resource Management
  • Recognize the importance of traditional territories and Cultural Resource Management in British Columbia
  • Delineate 'Chance Find' Procedures

This course is one of 10 courses that make up the Environmental Monitoring Online Certificate (EMC). Students have the option to enrol in individual courses without having to complete the Environmental Monitoring Certificate.
