Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) – Virtual Delivery

TESOL is an internationally-recognized industry certificate that many countries require for you to teach English internationally. The TESOL program is intended to provide students with the understanding and skills needed to effectively teach English to speakers of other languages and prepare them for their TESOL designation exam.
If you are a UNBC undergraduate student, completing the TESOL program at UNBC will earn you six credits toward your degree.
Not a UNBC student? That is OK. Earning your TESOL Certificate means you will still have the qualifications that many overseas employers look for when hiring English-speaking teachers.
This program covers all aspects of teaching English in classroom settings and is being offered virtually on Saturdays so you can continue to work or fit it into your school schedule.
The expectation is that students will participate in morning online lectures (9:30am - 12:30pm PST), during which time we will uncover the major TESOL methodologies and assessment practices. From 1:00pm - 4:30pm PST students will work on their own completing activities that will be evaluated by the professor and form part of the final course assessment.

Testimonials
"The certificate gave me the confidence to teach English. When I was job hunting, many interviewers were impressed with my TESOL certificate because the Japanese government recommends that we teach English in English and it needs people who have high skills. Now I am going to be an English teacher at high school this April in Japan, so my dream will come true." - Sumire Hisada
“I took the TESOL course because I wanted a practical, hands-on teaching course to complement my university courses in English literature, and I wanted to increase my cultural competency. The instructor was experienced and knowledgeable and promoted a positive learning environment—a good role model. The skills and knowledge I gained from this course are extremely valuable in my current job as a writing advisor both in practical terms and in how I interact with students from around the world.” - Brenda Koller
