Nenachalhuya - The Cedar Plank Project Reveal
Please join us as we celebrate the official completion and reveal of Nenachalhuya - The Cedar Plank Project.
In September of 2019, this project was launched as a way to honour and give thanks to some of the First Nations communities that we serve. Since this time artist Clayton Gauthier has produced 32 carvings on cedar planks which now surround the walls of Lhuhuhwhezdel: The Gathering Place. The design of each carving is the official logo of a northern BC First Nation which was submitted by the community.
Nenachalhuya is a Dakelh word meaning "you have done us great honour" or "we are thankful for what you have done".
We say nenachalhuya to these communities for working with us, trusting us to represent them in this way, and trusting us with their students—past, present, and future.
This event will consist of a few short speeches, a performance by the Lheidli T'enneh Men's Drum Group, as well as time for attendees to move throughout the space to view each piece.
In accordance with Public Health Orders, capacity for this event will be limited to 50 people and masks are required. The Gathering Place will remain open after the event for the UNBC community to view the carvings if they are unable to attend due to being at capacity.
