ITS Maintenance/Information for this week:
This is your weekly digest of system maintenance/information and downtime. All notices are also posted on the myUNBC Student Portal, our.unbc. ca for Employees, support.unbc.ca and on unbc.ca /its. Please see one of these locations for maintenance notices.
System maintenance and downtime for the week is planned as follows:
The following services will be involved on: Tuesday, November 2nd || Time: 5:00pm
Access Point Firmware Update: This update will require a Network outage of up to an hour.
- Note: Anyone who uses wireless will be affected
ITS Information Notice: Coming Soon! Multi-Factor Authentication
Over the next few weeks, UNBC ITS will roll out a new feature Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will make it easier to add more security to your user account. This means that we add an extra verification step to make sure that you are who you say you are!
After you register, you will be able to add a safe secure two-step verification method for your online credentials, such as mobile app notification to access your applications. Look for the next email to sign up for MFA!
ITS Information Notice: Printing is available again on most computers at UNBC
ITS is pleased to announce that printing is available again on most computers at UNBC. In order to maintain a high level of security, an automated system will check to ensure that your computer has the most recent updates and will automatically allow your computer to print if the updates have been applied.
What do I need to do?
You will need to reboot your computer when you are done your work for the day. The automated system will process this and will apply the changes the next time you log on.
What if I rebooted but I still can’t print?

ITS Information Notice: *Reminder* Update on Printing at UNBC
As of August 25th, ITS has made changes to how students & employees can print materials. We have done this to maintain the security of UNBC’s network.
Currently, there are 2 alternative solutions in place for printing:
- PRINTER Employee Desktop Pool - please visit support.unbc.ca, and the landing page link to the Knowledge Base article, for a printing solution through Virtual Desktop.
- PaperCut Web Print - please visit support.unbc.ca, and the landing page link to the Knowledge Base article on how to use Web Print.
If you cannot perform necessary processes, within this new pool OR using Web Print, please create a ticket by emailing email@example.com or visiting support.unbc.ca.
Important to note:
- Copy Services and printing for the UNBC community is still in place. Please visit Copy Services, as you would normally during this busy start of term time.
- Ricoh Printer Functionality - although printing has changed, scanning to email, copying and faxing functions are still operational.
ITS Information Notice – *Reminder* Regarding current workload and response times
ITS would like to thank everyone for using our new ITSM ticketing system called TeamDynamix. Many knowledge base articles are now in place, to aide in solutions for common issues, and an increase in self-help ability for all. This enables issues to be solved in a timely manner, by the customer, who can then carry on to get the job done with a solution in hand.
During the summer months ITS has an ever increasing workload, as many projects need to be completed by September. While this workload continually increases, we still need to complete all the tickets coming in on a priority basis, as well as vacation time for our staff. At this point in time, we have 2 service desk and 2 desktop support staff working hard to fulfill all the tickets and requests.
We wanted to let everyone know that each ticket, or request, is being prioritized as it comes in, and depending on the issue there may be a bit of a wait to complete it. Please watch for updates to your tickets and assist us by replying with the information requested.
