New Engineering Degree Programs Implementation

The design lab is UNBC's first interactive classroom. It features non-tiered seating for 60 students, tables and chairs that are fully mobile, standard and interactive projectors, workstations for group work and special acoustic treatment.


The new working lounge features workstations to allow gropu work,soft seating with easilty accessible electronics chanrging, small kitchenette, extensive storage for student projects, three walls with writable surfaces, natural daylight and acoustic treatment.

Bachelor of Applied Science - Civil and Environmental Engineering

UNBC's new B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering and B.A.Sc. in Environmental Engineering degree programs are designed to meet the needs of northern communities by supporting the social, economic, and employment growth of the region and province. In September 2019, UNBC welcomed its first cohort of students to the new programs.

Space in the Teaching and Learning Building has been renovated into a new interactive design lab and a new working lounge to accomodate and support the new programs. Additional space in the basement of the Teaching and Tearning Building will be renovated into hydrology labs and be ready to be used by Engineering faculty and students by September 2020.

UNBC is exploring a co-operative education and work integrated learning component to the Civil and Environmental Engineering degree programs. Additional faculty have been recruited and will continue to be recruited for the programs. There is currently a ongoing search for an Associate Dean, Engineering.

Master of Applied Science - Engineering

The Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Engineering degree program is suited for students who wish to pursue a research-based program in Engineering, and the program is expected to attract students from engineering disciplines such as, but not limited to, civil, environmental, structural, and building sciences. The degree program is in the implementation phase and is scheduled to begin in 2020.The program offering is subject to the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training approval.
