Muskwa Kechika / UNBC Research Partnership

Muskwa-Kechika Management Area

As noted on the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area (M-KMA) website, the M-KMA is situated in north-eastern British Columbia, Canada. It is an area of land designated for varying levels of protection, conservation and use (e.g. economic development, research, backcountry recreation, Alaska Highway travel). The M-KMA serves as a model for the future, enabling economic development while protecting a large, intact, and predominantly unroaded wilderness.

Muskwa-Kechika UNBC Partnership Agreement

The Muskwa-Kechika Advisory Board, working with the Muskwa-Kechika Trust Fund, has entered into a partnership agreement with the University of Northern British Columbia.  The Muskwa-Kechika Advisory Board and UNBC have worked together since the inception of the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area. The partnership agreement ensures collaboration between the Muskwa-Kechika Advisory Board and UNBC in support of the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area Act and Management Plan intent. As well, the partnership will work towards improving the quality of life in the region, the province and beyond by reaching the highest standards of undergraduate and graduate teaching, learning and research.

One aspect of the partnership is the appointment of a Muskwa-Kechika Research Professor who oversees the UNBC-M-KMA Research Projects, including graduate and undergraduate student work. The professor also participates on the Muskwa-Kechika Advisory Board Research Committee.  The partnership has also supported the establishment and maintenance of the Muskwa-Kechika Annotated Bibliographical Database.
