External Funding Opportunities

Grant and Contract Form

The Grant and Contract Form is now available through the Romeo Research Portal and must be submitted on-line.  Approval from your Chair, Dean and the Vice-President Research and Innovation must be obtained prior to submission of grant and contract proposals to an agency.

Once submitted in the portal, approval from your Program Chair and the Faculty Dean are collected automatically by the system.  The Office of Research and Innovation must receive your application form with these approvals a minimum of 5 days prior to the agency deadline so please give time for review by the Chair and Dean when you submit. Additional time is always appreciated and can result in a more thorough review of your application.

The BC Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF) supports research that: maximizes the economic and social benefits of investing in research infrastructure within BC; promotes excellence in research and the enhancement of research infrastructure within the province; encourages increased collaboration among the province’s post-secondary institutions, as well as between post-secondary institutions and industry; improves BC’s ability to attract and retain high quality researchers and skilled technicians; and, ensures BC’s public post-secondary institutions and teaching hospitals are able to compete successfully for private sector and federal funding.

Canada Foundation for Innovation

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) supports the development of research infrastructure (equipment, facilities and installations) needed to undertake leading edge research and develop advanced technologies through institutional funding programs. CFI contributes 40% of the total eligible project costs, usually in partnership with the British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF) which contributes another 40%, with the remaining 20% coming from the institution. Valuable research infrastructure at UNBC, from lab space, high performance computing and essential field equipment, has been funded by the CFI.

Canada Research Chairs Program

In 2000, the Government of Canada created a new permanent program to establish 2000 research professorships – Canada Research Chairs – in universities across the country by 2008. The Canada Research Chairs Program invests $300 million a year to attract and retain some of the world's most accomplished and promising minds. Canadian universities nominate Canada Research Chairs and administer their funds. Each eligible degree-granting institution receives an allocation of Chairs. For each Chair, a university nominates a researcher whose work complements its strategic research plan and who meets the program's high standards. Three members of a college of reviewers, composed of experts from around the world, assess each nomination and recommend whether to fund the position.
