Biography

Dr. Fei Tong joined the University of Northern British Columbia as an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering program of the School of Engineering. Fei obtained his PhD degree from the University of Toronto, and a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering from Tsinghua University. His research expertise lies in areas including seismic resilience of buildings and infrastructure, innovative low-damage systems, rocking systems, kinematic seismic isolation, supplemental damping technologies, seismic design of high-rise buildings and complex structures, advanced nonlinear numerical simulation, and design of concrete, steel, timber, and composite/hybrid structures.

Dr. Tong has extensive industrial experience of working with world-leading consulting firms including Ove Arup & Partners and Buro Happold Consulting Engineers. He worked in Beijing, Tokyo, and Dubai and made substantial contributions to a large number of world-renowned skyscrapers and bridge projects located around the world.
