UNBC Launches First Major Website Redesign in Five Years

January 21, 2013

In consultation with faculty, students and staff, the University of Northern British Columbia today has launched a new homepage and website, replacing a design that had been used for five years. The new site will make it easier for visitors to find the information they seek, and make it easier for the University’s web editors to improve and share content.

“UNBC’s website is our most important communications tool, and this upgrade will enhance opportunities for online visitors to get information about the University and the UNBC experience,” says UNBC Vice President of External Relations, Rob van Adrichem. “For example, we know that 92 percent of students refer to a university’s website when considering which institution to attend. It is also a primary tool for attracting high quality faculty and staff to the University and to northern BC.”

Additional statistics about unbc.ca:

  • Unbc.ca has more than 2.3 million visits per year, from about 750 thousand people.
  • There are 9.9 million page visits per year.
  • Ninety three percent of student applications to UNBC are completed online.
  • The website has 130 editors producing content for more than 5000 pages.
The next phase of development for unbc.ca will involve increasing the “shareability” of website content and making the site compatible with mobile devices.
