Field safety

UNBC continues to plan and respond to the global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The health and safety of faculty, staff and students are our top priority. Decisions are being made based on guidance that has been provided by Northern Health, the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), WorkSafe BC and by working with the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. Essential field work may proceed if transportation and the work can be managed in compliance with social distancing requirements.

** Until further notice Project Risk Assessments for all fieldwork are to be submitted to both safety@unbc.ca and research@unbc.ca for review. They must include the identification and mitigation for COVID-19 related risks.

Field safety training

UNBC recommends that faculty, staff and students conducting or participating in outdoor/ wilderness or community-based field work, studies or research complete the field safety training course prior to commencement of any field work.

The field safety training course involves watching a series of videos on field safety and preparation.  To sign up for this, please contact safety@unbc.ca from your UNBC email address.

A face-to-face Field Safety Orienteering Course is offered annually in the spring.
