The University of Northern British Columbia has had a historic year on the pitch and on the court, but it seems their commitment and achievement is just as stellar in the classroom. Today, the UNBC Timberwolves recognized 30 student-athletes as Academic All-Canadians for their tremendous results in the 2021-2022 school year. Those students represent approximately 40 percent of the student-athletes at UNBC.

The annual U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian ceremony honours students who have achieved a Grade Point Average of 3.67 (an A- letter grade) or higher.

The 29 Timberwolves who achieved Academic All-Canadian is the most in a regular academic year in UNBC history.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our student-athletes who continue to excel on and off the court and pitch,” said Loralyn Murdoch, UNBC Director of Athletics/Recreation. “The time management and commitment it takes to excel in this way is incredible. Our Timberwolves continue to raise the bar, and I am thrilled for our Academic All-Canadians.”

With a staggering collective GPA of 3.75, the Women’s Basketball team won the annual Office of the Provost Academic Achievement Award, given to the Timberwolves varsity team with the highest GPA during the season.

“This achievement is shared with the Office of Finance and Business Operations and the Vice President Academic and Provost office. They provide the funding and support for our peer tutor leaders for each varsity team,” Murdoch said. “Our peer tutor leaders have been critical in the bar being continually raised for the academic success of all our Timberwolves athletes. You can see the success and impact of the program grow every year, and we are so excited by that.”
