PRINCE GEORGE - University of Northern British Columbia’s women’s soccer team coach Neil Sedgwick knew he wanted Hallie Nystedt on his team. The product of Stelly’s secondary school in Saanich, B.C., made that decision official, committing to join the Timberwolves for the 2017 season.

“I have known Hallie for nearly seven years,” Sedgwick said. “She has grown into a player with sound technical habits and a strong understanding of the vision and awareness which we look to enhance within our group daily.”

The fullback, who plays with the Vancouver Island Wave, cites her trip to UNBC as a deciding factor.

“I absolutely fell in love with the campus when I was there,” Nystedt said. “It was so beautiful and unique. I looked at a number of universities, but I was very attracted to the smaller class sizes and atmosphere at UNBC.”

Sedgwick has focused on creating a positive culture within the Timberwolves, which was evident to Nystedt.

“The feeling around the team was amazing,” she said. “All the girls were so welcoming and kind, and the coaching staff was exactly what I was looking for.”

Nystedt is a highly skilled player on the pitch, and hopes to contribute to the Timberwolves on both sides of the ball.

“I’d say I am more of a defensive-style player, however I love to attack,” she said. “I will be looking to do so whenever I get the chance.”

UNBC progressed significantly in Sedgwick’s first campaign with the program. He points to incoming players like Nystedt as a positive step in maintaining that momentum.

“Hallie is one of those people who brings such positivity that she will be fantastic for the team's togetherness,” he said.

Nystedt is well aware of the strides the Timberwolves have made, and is ready to be part of a budding program in Prince George.

“I hope to make a positive contribution to the team this year,” she said. “It’s exciting to help build on the momentum the team has gained over the last season.”
