It may look different than in years past, but the 7th Annual UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Breakfast is officially a go. Stanley Cup-winning coach Jon Cooper will headline the morning, which will be held virtually for the first time in the event’s history.

Born and raised in Prince George, Cooper currently serves as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning; the reigning Stanley Cup champions of the National Hockey League. He is the longest tenured coach in the league, and has never had a losing record behind an NHL bench.

As the keynote speaker, he’ll share the story of his path from Northern B.C. youth to his lacrosse career, his life as a defense lawyer, and his ascension to the professional hockey ranks.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Jon Cooper for what should be an incredible morning,” said Loralyn Murdoch, UNBC’s Director of Athletics & Recreation. “Jon has an incredible story. He is truly proud of his Prince George roots, and I know Prince George is so proud of him. I can’t wait for everyone to hear his story.”

The Timberwolves Legacy Breakfast serves as a major fundraiser for UNBC Athletics, with every dollar raised going directly towards scholarships and bursaries for TWolves student-athletes.

“Every year, the Legacy Breakfast exceeds our expectations. Our goal is to find ways to improve and grow the event and its impact every year,” said Murdoch. “We really do rely on this event to provide scholarships and bursaries for our student-athletes, and the generosity of the community astounds me annually.”

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the format of the event will be drastically changed from years past. This year, the event will be offered digitally, with a live video link provided to those who purchase a ticket.

“This year has been all about adaptability and pivoting in a safe and appropriate manner,” said Murdoch. “We all love getting together in a big room and sharing in a live atmosphere. However, with the restrictions, this has opened up the chance to pivot into a digital event, and I am really excited for everyone to experience that.”

For the seventh consecutive year, Canadian Tire will be the Timberwolves Legacy Breakfast presenting sponsor.

Previous Legacy Breakfast keynote speakers include Hayley Wickenheiser, Pinball Clemons, Theo Fleury, Michael Landsberg, Jennifer Jones, and Kady Dandeneau.
