Canada West Men’s Soccer Preview
October 15th, 2021 @ 8 PM
October 17th, 2021 @ 3 PM

UNBC Timberwolves (1-4-3)
7th in West Division Standings
11 Goals For
14 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Owen Stewart: 3 Goals
Assists Leader: Kensho Ando: 3 Assists
Points Leader: Kensho Ando: 4 Points
Saves Leader: Daniel Zadravec: 43 Saves

Player to watch: Michael Henman, F
It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say Michael Henman could have five or six goals this season. The third-year forward has been UNBC’s most threatening attacker, even hitting the post on three separate occasions. The Victoria native broke through last game with a three-point performance, and will be looking to build on that against a stingy UFV backline.

UFV Cascades (2-3-3)
5th in West Division Standings
8 Goals For
8 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Manpal Brar, Taylor Richardson: 3 Goals
Assists Leader: Trevor Zanatta: 4 Assists
Points Leader: Trevor Zanatta: 4 Points
Saves Leader: Jackson Cowx: 21 Saves

Player to watch: Manpal Brar, F
With three goals in his last three games, Brar comes into this matchup as one of the hottest forwards in the conference. A transfer from UBC, Brar has battled through a pair of knee surgeries to return to the pitch, and has added a dose of offensive punch to a Cascades lineup that needs the Surrey product to produce.

UNBC’s Gregor Smith

On their opponent, the UFV Cascades…

“They’re a big team. We know they are going to be strong and physical. In preseason, they had a lot of very tough guys they can use in set pieces, and they use that to their advantage. Coming off confident wins over UBC and TRU, I know they are going to be ready to go. But we are going to be ready to go as well.”

On keys to victory against the Cascades…

“I think we need to stick to our roots. Know how we play, and continue with that. That worked against UBCO, and I think we can use that again against Fraser Valley.”

On the state of the Canada West standings…

“We know this weekend, we need two wins. We need a six-point weekend, and, frankly, we have to execute. Enough talking about it. It’s time to actually do it. I think that would put us in a good place heading into the final weekend.”

On using the bye week to prepare for the matchup…

“We are confident. Coming off the 4-1 win over UBCO, we have lots of confidence. We got the week off. Makes you want to play a little bit more. You miss it. We are really going to be ready to go this weekend.”
