Canada West Women’s Soccer Preview
UNBC @ UBCO
September 28th, 2019 @ 1:00 PM

UNBC Timberwolves (3-1-2)
4th in Pacific Division Standings
7 Goals For
4 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Sofia Jones, Paige Payne, Hannah Emmond: 2 Goals
Assists Leader: Julia Babicz, Sofia Jones: 2 Assists
Points Leader: Sofia Jones: 4 Points
Saves Leader: Madi Doyle, Brooke Molby: 15 Saves

Player to watch: Hannah Emmond, F
A third-year forward from Prince George, Emmond has asserted herself well when put on the pitch. Never the biggest player on the pitch, she plays with an aggressiveness and offensive mindset that has helped her score twice in the past four games. The TWolves will need her injection of forward thinking against a solid Heat side.

UBCO Heat (0-6-0)
8th in Pacific Division Standings
0 Goals For
18 Goals Against
Goals Leader: N/A
Assists Leader: N/A
Points Leader: N/A
Saves Leader: Emma Terrillon: 25 Saves

Player to watch: Maya Bandy, D
A fourth-year defender, Bandy plays an important role on a relatively young Heat roster. A finalist for the UBCO Female Athlete of the Year in 2018-2019, the Vernon product is equal parts athletic and intelligent on the pitch. Offense has been tough to come by thus far for the Heat, so Bandy and the backline will need to be solid.

UNBC @ TRU
September 29th, 2019 @ 12:00 PM

UNBC Timberwolves (3-1-2)
4th in Pacific Division Standings
7 Goals For
4 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Sofia Jones, Paige Payne, Hannah Emmond: 2 Goals
Assists Leader: Julia Babicz, Sofia Jones: 2 Assists
Points Leader: Sofia Jones: 4 Points
Saves Leader: Madi Doyle, Brooke Molby: 15 Saves

Player to watch: Mara McCleary, D
One of the best defenders in the conference, McCleary has been tremendous for the Timberwolves through six games. The fourth-year Victoria product will need to be aware of a number of speedy, athletic threats on the Pack roster, including leading scorer Chantal Gammie.

TRU WolfPack (1-4-1)
7th in Pacific Division Standings
3 Goals For
12 Goals Against
Goals Leader: Camryn Curts, Shae Fuoco, Chantal Gammie: 1 Goal
Assists Leader: Camryn Curts, Chantal Gammie: 1 Assist
Points Leader: Camryn Curts, Chantal Gammie: 2 Points
Saves Leader: Danielle Robertson: 46 Saves

Player to Watch: Danielle Robertson, GK
Robertson has been busy this season, stopping a conference-high 46 shots thus far in the WolfPack net. An athletic, fearless keeper, the Courtenay, B.C. product has been excellent for a TRU side that has leaned on her veteran leadership. The Timberwolves will be looking to test the third-year early and often.

Quotes: UNBC’s Sofia Jones

On the matchup with the Heat…
“UBCO is a strong team. They haven't been getting the results they want, but they will look to keep the ball. We had a close game with them in the first weekend, and I think we are all expecting a tight game Saturday.”

On the matchup with the WolfPack…
“TRU is getting better and better. They play aggressively, and with real intent. As a team, we will have to really try our best to stay connected defensively. Offensively, we have to try to take advantage of any opportunities we get. They have a good keeper, so capitalizing will be important.”

On the TWolves’ start to the Canada West season…
“I'm very proud of our team this season. We have had a good start, but we have also left some points out there. I hope, as the season progresses, we will keep pushing ourselves to become better players, and a better team as a whole.”

On leading the team in goals, assists, and points…
“Any success I have as a player comes from my teammates and coaches. This is such a great team, and we play for each other. Every player has constantly supported me, both on and off the field, and it means a lot.”
