The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a probationary appointment in the School of Nursing at the rank of Senior Lab Instructor, with a proposed starting date of April 1, 2024. Nursing educational offerings at UNBC include a Certificate in Rural Nursing, a collaborative BScN degree offered in conjunction with the College of New Caledonia (Prince George and Quesnel) and Coast Mountain College in Terrace, a 2-year Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program in Fort St. John and Prince George, a MScN degree with thesis or project options, and a MSc-FNP degree.

The Senior Lab Instructor is responsible for nursing instruction in clinical venues; group teaching in tutorials, labs, seminars and workshops; contributing to classroom and online teaching and student assessment; and participating in curriculum and course development. The opportunity to instruct theory-based courses is possible for qualified candidates with subject matter expertise. The Senior Laboratory Instructor (Nursing Education) is expected to engage in continuing professional development and scholarly activities, along with service to the University, the community and the profession. The candidate will have the opportunity to teach in multiple modalities. This position may also serve as the regional NCBNP coordinator for the Terrace campus; in this role, the successful applicant would form part of the leadership team in the School of Nursing and would contribute to the planning, development, and delivery of the NCBNP program to students in Terrace. Regional program coordinators serve as a key resource for faculty and staff, as well as clinical and academic stakeholders in the region.

The successful applicant for the position will hold and maintain a Registered Nurse designation with a BScN. A Master’s degree in nursing or a related field is preferred, along with a minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience and interest and experience in clinical teaching. The nursing program is particularly seeking Registered Nurses who have current clinical expertise in any of the following areas of nursing: high acuity or advanced practice skills, pediatric nursing, maternity nursing, geriatrics nursing, mental health, Indigenous health, and rural health. Evidence of continuing professional development and/or scholarship is required. The successful applicant must demonstrate a high level of organization, strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and be able to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and health service agencies. Candidates will present a record of teaching excellence. Some travel by road and air to regional campuses and northern communities is required. Registration with the BCCNM and a valid BC driver’s license are required.
