Resources for Faculty and Staff
The University of Northern British Columbia values the spirit of academic freedom, respect for others, and the willingness to recognize different perspectives. We commit to undertaking publicity efforts to share our knowledge with the world.
We also commit to supporting our faculty, students and staff who do this work.
Story Ideas
UNBC faculty, students, and staff: have a story about UNBC you would like to promote to external audiences? Before you call the media or post it to your social network, contact us to discuss some options. Communications has a large database of media contacts and access to the entire University website and all of our key social media assets to help ensure our stories are covered as widely as possible.
Media Relations Training
Faculty, staff and students are often asked to conduct interviews with local, provincial, national and even international media outlets. Our Communications team, staffed by several former journalists, can help you prepare and can provide advice so you can share your story effectively with a broad audience. We can also offer training for students who may never have had any media relations experience.
Website
There are numerous opportunities to showcase stories on the UNBC website. Contact us to discuss options, including media releases, news announcements, event postings, and rotating web page images and content.
Harassment, trolling and doxing
In the course of sharing research and knowledge through various publicity means, faculty, students and staff may become subject to various forms of harassment, particularly online. This section provides some advice and resources.
Digital Photo Catalog
Since September of 2002, all photos taken by Communications and Marketing have been shot and catalogued digitally. Program and department members are welcome to come to our office and browse the entire photo catalogue.
