Abbotsford — The UNBC Timberwolves women's soccer team fell 2-1 win in their first of two games againnst the UFV Cascades. Both UFV goals came from the boot of fourth-year striker Shelby Beck, while the lone UNBC tally was credited to Sydney Hall. The Cascades improve to 4-1-0 on the year. The Timberwolves drop to 0-3-2.

Playing against a beautiful sunset, both teams found quality chances early on without being able to capitalize on the opportunities.  UFV's Monika Levarsky bounced a strike off of the crossbar in the opening minutes, beginning a flurry of UFV chances from close range. UNBC's Sydney Roy created her own sparkle on the left flank, nutmegging two Cascades defenders in quick succession in one of the more remarkable moments for her team.

While UFV showed an unfortunate knack for striking the ball exactly at UNBC keeper Jordan Hall, the tactic paid off in the 45th minute when a scramble in front of the Timberwolves net culminated in Beck banging one home. Hall stopped the first shot, a defender got a piece of the second, but the third was all Beck. The Cascades went into halftime up a goal and credited with the majority of the chances.

Beck struck again in the 51st minute, and UFV looked to be well on its way to coasting into a win. Yet the Timberwolves fended off a number of further chances and finally managed to spring Sydney Hall in the 82nd minute for a venture into the box. Hall's shot careened off of both posts behind UFV's Kayla Klim before crossing over the line.

While UNBC contested the game with renewed vigour in the remaining minutes, it wasn't enough to change the ultimate result of the contest. Jordan Hall made nine saves in the match, while Klim made three.

The Cascades and Timberwolves will play again at 5 pm tomorrow (Sept 20) at Abby Senior in Abbotsford. All games will be streamed with live video and stats at http://canadawest.tv
