Everyone is invited to attend the NH Research Seminar Series*, Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 12:30pm-2:00pm via ZOOM.

We are delighted to have Dr. Erin Wilson, PhD, NP(F), Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, Coordinator, Post-Graduate Nursing Programs, University of Northern British Columbia and Kristine Rowswell, MScN, NP(F), Lecturer, School of Nursing, University of Northern British Columbia, present on:

Understanding Engagement in Care for Patients who Access Opioid Agonist Therapy:

This patient-oriented study focuses on understanding patient acceptability of local services providing opioid agonist therapy (OAT). Access to OAT and harm reduction services greatly reduces harm and death in patients with opioid use disorder. Our interdisciplinary team including a patient partner designed an interview study drawing on the Candidacy framework. Over a series of months during COVID-19, we interviewed 28 participants who attended for OAT services at three different clinics in an urban setting. Findings help identify people’s motivations, fears, and ability to navigate current OAT services. Next steps include a prioritization exercise to identify small actionable changes that can be undertaken by a range of service providers, clinicians, and decision-makers to support patient engagement with OAT services. Findings from this study can support responsive, patient-centred, and equitable service design.
