To achieve true reconciliation, we all must understand the truth.

As we recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day, we encourage everyone to discover the true story of Indigenous People in Canada. Learn about the diverse Indigenous communities that have called our region home since time immemorial. Celebrate Indigenous history and culture. Educate yourself about the ongoing impacts of colonialism.

The recent discoveries of unmarked graves at the former site of residential schools in Kamloops, Brandon and across the country are stark reminders that many of us do not know the full extent of the horrors children experienced at these government- and church-run institutions. It is past time for all of us to seek out that truth.

When we know the truth, we can all be part of the healing and change required as we work toward reconciliation.
