Prince George, B.C. – Once again, the University of Northern British Columbia is one of the top employers in the province.

“This recognition is a testament to the outstanding workplace culture our faculty and staff continue to build with their passion, enthusiasm and creativity,” says UNBC interim President Dr. Geoff Payne. “As we have repeatedly adapted our operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our employees have shown ingenuity in developing novel solutions to the operational challenges the pandemic presented. I am grateful for their amazing efforts and exceptional contributions to UNBC’s mission and inspiring our community.”

Among the reasons the judges selected UNBC for the recognition are the lifelong educational opportunities, including tuition waivers and tuition subsidies as well as in-house learning programs. They also singled out UNBC’s maternity and parental leave salary top-up plans as well as the on-site childcare centre for working parents. UNBC employees also have access to the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre as well as the many trails around campus.

UNBC is judged on its physical workplace; work atmosphere and social environment; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.
