UNBC Recognizes Airbc Support

October 24, 1997 For Immediate Release

AirBC President Al Thompson will join University of Northern British Columbia President Charles Jago on campus today for an event recognizing the airline's support of the University.

Classroom 6-311 (in the Conference and Fitness Centre) will be named in honour of AirBC. The official presentation will begin today at noon.

AirBC has committed to contributing up to $50,000 in air travel for UNBC students. AirBC, for example, provides 20 roundtrip passes anywhere AirBC flies for students receiving UNBC's most prestigious scholarships.

The airline also provides 40 roundtrip passes for prospective UNBC students, giving them the opportunity to visit the campus and meet with professors before making their final decision to attend UNBC. Already, these students have come from Vernon, Revelstoke, North Vancouver, Nakusp, Cranbrook, Golden, Kitimat, Sechelt, and Vancouver.

Finally, AirBC has agreed to sponsor a number of UNBC conferences and provide roundtrip air passes for some delegates and speakers.

"The support AirBC has provided has been of great benefit to our students," says UNBC President Charles Jago. "About two-thirds of our students are from outside of Prince George. The support AirBC has have given us has allowed prospective students to see the campus for the first time, and allowed us to reward our top students."
