for Campus Renovations
The University of Northern British Columbia has
awarded a $155,512 contract to Crossroads Construction of
Prince George for renovations to BC Tel Student Services
Street and the Administration Building.
The Student Services Street renovation will allow the
expansion of UNBCs student services, especially
First Nations services, academic advising, learning
skills, and counselling. $50,000 of the cost of
renovating Student Services Street is being funded by the
Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
"The renovations will expand UNBCs student
services, give greater prominence to our new Student
Success Centres, and improve the functionality of the
different units that deliver services to students,"
says UNBC Associate Vice-President Student Services and
Registrar Alex Reed.
The renovations to the Administration Building are
being conducted to improve efficiencies and bring
together some new senior positions. Rather than have
Faculty Deans in different locations, for example, the
new Dean of the College of Arts, Social, and Health
Sciences; the Dean of the College of Science and
Management; and the Associate Vice-President Research and
Dean of Graduate Studies will have offices in the same
area.
Two contractors bid for the project. Work will begin
on Monday, July 21st and is scheduled to be complete by
the end of September.
A call for tenders for a new housing office will be
issued on July 25th. The office will move from its
current location on Student Services Street to adjacent
to the student residences.
