Call For Nominations: Honorary Degree And Friend Of The University

September 15 For Immediate Release

The Senate of the University of Northern British Columbia is inviting nominations for its two most distinguished public awards.

Honorary doctoral degrees recognize distinguished achievement in scholarship, research, teaching, creative arts, public service, or significant contribution to the life of the University, British Columbia, Canada, or the world. The award, Friend of the University, recognizes distinguished achievement in the areas noted above, but with a particular focus on northern British Columbia.

Nominations must be sent to Alex Reed, Secretary of Senate, by October 20th and include the following information:

  • the current name and address of the candidate
  • a curriculum vitae (résumé) of the candidate
  • a list of publications or other achievements
  • a brief statement outlining why the nominee should be considered for this honour
  • the name, address, and phone number of the nominator(s).
The award winners will be recognized at the 1998 Convocation ceremony. This past May, honorary degrees were awarded to former MLA Ray Williston and esteemed natural biologist Ian McTaggart-Cowan. Local lawyer and UNBC founder, Murray Sadler QC, was named a Friend of the University.
