UNBC Commentators On Northern Issues

The University of Northern British Columbia will be hosting the Northwestern Ministers' Economic Conference on October 27th, and the Premier's Summit on Jobs and Northern Development will be held in Prince George starting on October 28th. UNBC has faculty with extensive expertise on a variety of northern issues, including the issues outlined below:

Northern Politics
Geoffrey Weller, International Studies, 960-6488. Professor Weller has published an article in BC Studies on whether BC needs a Ministry of Northern Affairs.

Resource-dependent Communities
Greg Halseth, Geography, 960-5826. Dr Halseth is currently working on an FRBC-sponsored research project investigating opportunities for communities to have a greater say in resource-planning decision-making.

Quality of Life
Alex Michalos, Political Science, 960-6697. Dr Michalos has recently completed a number of surveys on the quality of life of Prince George residents.
