Timberwolves Athletic Association Formed

October 3, 2006
The Timberwolves Athletic Association is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Northern BC.  The document establishes a working relationship between the grassroots organization and the University, with the common goal of furthering UNBC athletics.

With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the Timberwolves Athletic Association will become officially recognized as a community organization supporting athletics at UNBC.  As a registered society it can assist the UNBC athletic program in a number of ways including scholarships, equipment purchases and transportation.  Funds will be raised through a variety of means including raffles and specials events.

“Our organization has been developed by northern BC residents who share belief that we can improve the sport culture at the University,” said Association Director Brent Stone.  “We have something to add to UNBC.  And if that makes UNBC better, it will make Northern BC better.”

UNBC has welcomed the establishment of the Timberwolves Athletic Association. “This association as critical to the future development of Athletics at UNBC,” says UNBC President Don Cozzetto. “Their work in terms of fundraising and strengthening the connection between Athletics and the community will be essential as we aim for competition at the national university level.”

The Timberwolves Athletic Association provides an opportunity for athletic-minded individuals across the north to play an important role in the success of sports at UNBC.  As a volunteer organization, it relies on the importance of its mission to attract individuals who are willing to provide their skills for the good of the University and the region.  With the region’s long history of sports, it believes the importance of sports in the development of a healthy community is well-recognized among northern residents. The current directors of the TAA are Alex Hawley, Brent Stone, Dave Barry, Mark Bertulli, Renzo Berra, Mario Mastrioanni, Larry Olsen, Ann Drezet, and Ray Smith.

The Timberwolves Athletic Association expects to announce its first major fundraising project in support of UNBC Athletics within weeks
