UNBC students Erin Doyle and Linda Kerswell, along with 800 otherstudents from 250 universities in six countries, gathered for theGolden Key International Hounour Society Leadership Conference inAtlanta, Georgia. UNBC is one of only 17 universities across Canadawith a Golden Key chapter, and Doyle and Kerswell are executive membersof UNBC’s chapter.
The Golden Key International Honour Society was founded in 1977 inAtlanta. The global not-for-profit organization provides academicrecognition to university students in the top 15 percent of theirclass. Members receive leadership training, community service, careernetworking, and scholarships. The Society has nearly 350 chapters atuniversities in Canada, Australia, the United States, Malaysia, NewZealand and South Africa. The UNBC chapter has just over 300 members.
At the August conference in Atlanta, awards were granted to outstandingchapters and individual students for their accomplishments over thepast year. UNBC’s chapter helped Canada win the International SpiritAward. Over the past year, the local Golden Key group has been involvedwith selling daffodils for cancer research, cleaning up local parks,and holding a campus food drive for St Vincent de Paul.
The UNBC members were among other high achieving university studentswho attended the annual International Conference that offered careerand personal development workshops, community service opportunities andleadership training. This year’s conference took place August 12-15, inDowntown Atlanta.
Linda Kerswell is a third-year Psychology student from Prince George.Erin Doyle is from Sechelt and is among the first 24 studentsregistered in the Northern Medical Program.
