Research ethics and safety: human participants

Research Ethics Board (REB)

The REB is responsible for ensuring University-wide understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable external and internal requirements. Prior to commencement of research and teaching activities involving the use of human participants, or human biological materials, the REB must review and approve the activities.

Effective January 1, 2023, all new single jurisdictional protocols requiring ethics review must be submitted through the ROMEO Research Portal. Please refer to the "Process for submitting applications" link below. For existing protocols that were commenced prior to being submitted through the Romeo Research Portal, the REB Renewal and/or Amendment Application (.doc file) posted on the Research Ethics forms web page will continue to be supported until 2025 and can be submitted by email to reb@unbc.ca.
