Invitation to faculty
In April 2024, faculty members of the University of Northern British Columbia and partner institutions will be emailed an invitation to the Annual Prince George Convocation ceremonies.
The first ceremony takes place in the morning and the second ceremony takes place mid-afternoon.
To put your name forward to be a Faculty Marshal who assists fellow faculty members with gowning and the processional line-up, please email email@example.com and we will forward your name to the Lead Faculty Marshal. They will connect with you for training and orientation prior to Convocation Day.
There may be some crossover of programs within the Convocation ceremonies; to determine which Convocation ceremony you should attend, please review the document below:
Graduate Celebration Ceremonies
You may be contacted by individual campuses with specific invitations to their graduate celebration ceremonies. If you have questions about these celebrations, please contact the campus directly.
Note: The Convocation Office does not accept faculty RSVPs for graduate celebrations. Please contact the regional campus directly.
To confirm your attendance, please RSVP between Monday, April 1 and Tuesday, May 7, 2024. For faculty who are also Senate members, you may wish to be included in the VIP section. Please indicate this on your RSVP form. RSVP via email will not accepted.
Procession and interaction with graduands
The faculty procession will be located in the Northern Undergraduate Students Centre (NUSC) event space in the Conference Centre located by the Thirsty Moose Pub. Faculty will gown up there and then assemble outside to celebrate the graduands as they process from Student Services Street, cross the Agora Courtyard, and head to the Northern Sport Centre. This is a UNBC tradition and an exciting time when high-fives and celebratory whoops are encouraged!
Please report to the NUSC event space at least one hour prior to the ceremony start time. A Faculty Marshal will provide assistance and assemble processional lines.
The faculty procession will follow the graduand processional lines.
In the event of inclement weather, please report to the designated faculty gowning room in the lower level of the Northern Sport Centre instead of the NUSC event space.
Note: It is recommended that you leave personal items such as purses and coats in your office.

After submitting your online RSVP an itinerary will be sent to you via email.
Faculty members are requested to wear academic regalia from their alma mater and/or traditional regalia. If you do not already have your own regalia, you can download and complete the regalia quote request form. Please send the completed form to the UNBC Bookstore at firstname.lastname@example.org to receive a purchase quote.
Fun Give Away - The Convocation Office has some hoods to give away to Faculty attending UNBC Convocation Ceremonies, if your alma mater was UBC, Toronto, Western Ontario, University of Alberta, McGill, SFU, or Guelph you can email email@example.com to put your name in to win a free hood. Likewise, there are some generic UNBC hoods that can be provided to faculty who would like to borrow one.
If you want to borrow a black gown from the UNBC Bookstore, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your request after May 1, 2024. Gowns are available in sizes small (S), medium (M), large (L) and extra large (XL). They are sized according to shoulder width and height. A gown will be set aside for you to pick up prior to Convocation Day.
