Group Fitness Drop-in Classes

Fall 2021   |    September 13 - December 19


Effective Oct. 14, 2021 and until further notice:

  • Group fitness drop-in classes are open to all. Pick up your class pass 30 minutes before the class starts. Participants must sign in (name and phone) with each group fitness instructor to allow for contact tracing if required.  
  •  They are free for members. Non-members must pay the drop-in fee.  

Effective Aug. 25, 2021 until further notice:

  • Wearing a mask while in the public areas of the facility is required. You do not have to wear one while exercising. 
  • Continue to practice physical distancing.
  • Stay home if you are feeling ill.

  • All group fitness classes are part of your membership fee.  
  • No classes on stat holidays: Sept. 30, Oct. 12 and Nov. 11.
  • Activities are suitable for all levels of fitness - just do your best. 
  • Class dates/times and instructors are subject to change. They may be cancelled at any time for illness, COVID-19 orders, facility bookings and other activities. Please visit the specific class below, follow us on social media to stay updated or check out our Twitter feed on the web home page. 
  • FOB access control returns to the Track and Zones 3 and 4. Please ensure you have scanned in at the Front Desk upon arrival at the facility to allow Zone access. Carry your FOB with you as you move around the Zones.

NOTE: Sculpt n' Core, Boomer Fit and Cycle Fit are cancelled Wednesday, Dec. 8 as we host UNBC exams.

Code of Conduct

A few things to remember to ensure a positive and respectful experience for everyone:

  • Please limit your use of scents such as perfume and cologne when attending these classes.
  • Pick up your NSC Class Pass at the Front Desk thirty (30) minutes before class time to confirm your spot. One pass per person. No taking a pass (s) to save a spot for others.
  • Children 13 - 15 can participate with a parent/guardian in attendance. Youth 16 - 18 are permitted without a parent/guardian.
  • Children under twelve are not permitted to participate or sit in on classes. They cannot sit outside the room or in the hallway while their parents participate.
  • Drop in fitness classes are closed to late arrivals. This prevents disrupting the instructor and the participants.
  • Outdoor shoes are not permitted in the fitness areas.

Boomer Fit

Monday and Wednesday

Age is just a number in this fun and popular class for those 50+! Grab a friend (or meet a new one!) as you exercise your way to fitness or an improved fitness level using weights, bands and more. Led by Rebecca, if you have medical issues that have limited your participation, Boomer Fit is for you.

Cardio n' Core

Friday: 12:00pm - 12:55pm - cancelled Nov. 26.

Get your heart pumping with an energetic mix of Tabata, HIIT and other cardio-style routines led by Rebecca. Core work in the last twenty minutes ensures a total workout experience.

Cycle Fit

Monday: 5:00pm - 5:55pm

This high intensity class will challenge your cycling performance, cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. If you want to take your cycle fitness to a higher level, this is your class. Cycle Fit is suitable for riders fresh off the training wheels as well as those seeking a new challenge. David teaches Tuesday and Thursday, Rebecca on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 

Core Fit

Tuesday: 7:00pm - 7:30pm

Saturday: 10:30am - 11:00am (classes cancelled Nov. 20 +27)

This 30-minute blast to your mid-section will improve posture, increase balance and reduce back pain. A combination of plyometric cardio and core stability routines will find those abs you forgot you had!  Lon teaches Tuesday and alternates Saturday with Kiana. 

Sculpt n' Core

Join Rebecca for this innovative mix of Pilates, Fit Barre, and toning floor work. You will use body weight, free weights and foam rollers - expect the unexpected!

Cardio Dance

Tuesday and Thursday: 7:00pm - 7:55pm

Instructor Paz will have you dancing your way to fitness with the motivating Latin moves and music of merengue, samba, salsa and more. No dance experience required!

NSC Cycle 1Cycle n' Core

We combined Cycle Fit and Core Fit to create this class!  Taught by Rebecca, 35 minutes of cycling and 20 minutes of core work on the floor will jumpstart your week and build cardio and strength.

Fit Camp

Tuesday: 5:30pm - 6:25pm

Saturday: 9:00am - 9:55am (classes cancelled Nov. 20 + 27)

NSC FIT CampNorthern Sport Centre’s signature Boot Camp will take amp up your fitness using an interval-based workout. No drill sergeants, but all the hard-core conditioning you can handle. Train with cutting edge methods and equipment to create a healthier you.  The lunch version is a bit shorter!  Lon teaches Tuesday night and Kiana and Lon alternate Saturdays.  

Gentle Yoga

Tuesday and Friday: 12:00pm - 12:55pm

Saturday: 9:30am - 10:25am

Gentle Yoga is a great class if you are new to yoga or feel the need for a more restful approach. The slower pace allows for personal guidance while building a foundation to improve your strength and balance. Leah teaches Tuesday and Saturday. Vivian teaches Friday. 

NEW! Yin and Yang Yoga

Monday: 5:00pm - 6:15pm

This type of yoga balances energy, flexibility and strength by blending two styles of yoga into one practice.  Led by Leah, it combines the benefits of passive holding yoga poses with more dynamic sequences and standing posture.

Power Yoga

Thursday: 12:00pm - 12:55pm

Power Yoga is the perfect blend of strength and relaxation all into one class. Leah uses traditional yoga poses integrated with dynamic vinyasas and challenging postures that will build strength and concentration. Enjoy a peaceful savasana and leave feeling calm and empowered.

NEW! HIIT Boot Camp

Tuesday and Thursday: 9:00am - 9:55am

Friday: 6:00am - 6:55am

Get ready to sweat! This high intensity interval training class consists of circuit type training that incorporates cardio, resistance training, and core, all in a fast faced, feel the burn workout! Love the workout, love the results! David teaches Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  

Strong n' Fit

Wednesday: 5:00pm - 5:55pm

Get strong and fit with Rebecca in our upbeat group strength class using bars and dumbbell weights. You will train to improve full body strength and endurance with engaging and dynamic routines. 

Tai Chi

Tuesday and Thursday: 10:00am - 10:55am

Tai Chi at NSCTai Chi's gentle movements combine yoga and meditation followed by smooth and graceful transitions. Paz Milburn teaches the 24 Simplified Yang Style from the Taoist principle and Chen Style. Calm your mind, improve balance and connect with your “chi” the vital force that Chinese philosophy believes animates the body. You must be 16+ years of age to participate in this class.

Yin Yoga

Wednesday and Friday: 10:30am - 11:45am

NSC YogaMake time to restore, relax and return to your breath through a slow, nourishing practice led by Vivian. In the practice of Yin, allow your body to passively release into deeper relaxation and flexibility.  


Wednesday: 12:00pm - 12:55pm

Join Vivian as she leads the ancient practice of uniting your breath and physical posture. Acquire improved flexibility, balance, strength and mental clarity. Yoga is for all levels and abilities. Classes range in style depending on the instructor’s teaching practice. No previous yoga experience is necessary! 

Yin Yoga Fusion

Monday: 10:30am - 11:45am

Join Vivian for this balance and blend of active yoga and a gentle flow. Combining a passive side of Yin Yoga and a softening and surrender deep into the connective tissues, this class is a well-rounded practice and open to all levels.


Thursday: 5:00pm - 5:55pm

NSC Zumba 1Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party™ !  Taught by Benita, once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are called exercise in disguise.

Youth 13 - 15 are permitted with a parent/guardian in attendance/participating.
