Film and Video Through an Indigenous Lens

This studio/seminar course introduces students to a wide range of Indigenous film and video produced in Canada and around the world. Through lectures and screenings students explore how Indigenous filmmakers engage with strategies of colonization/decolonization, cultural revitalization, and storytelling.

Topics include visual culture, representation, sovereignty, human rights, land rights, language, spirituality, sexuality, and gender.

During the course students will work on a project, which could be a project proposal, short video, treatment, storyboard, or visual artwork in a medium of their choice.

This course is offered in partnership with OCAD University to offer a wide range of courses for enhancing your career expertise in web, design, photography, analytics, and technology.

As a student, you will receive an OCAD U user account, which will grant you access to the OCAD U learning management system, called Canvas. Your Canvas account will be enabled one week prior to the start date of your course. Login at canvas.ocadu.ca.
